School and district staff as well as interested board members still have time to register for this year’s KSBA School Law Update – part of a first-ever two-day training event in Lexington next week.

On Thursday, May 7, KSBA Director of Legal and Administrative Training Teresa Combs will be joined by KSBA Policy Service consultants for a half day devoted to rules for school personnel on restraint and/or seclusion of students.

The session, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lexington, begins with on-site registration at 12:30 p.m. and the seminar starts at 1 p.m. Registration is $140 per person for the first three district representatives and $100 per person for more participants.

Meanwhile, on Friday, May 8, KSBA staff will be joined by representatives of the state Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) and the Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) for the 9th annual KSBA School Law Update.

The lineup will include discussions on various new federal and state regulations, and federal agency action on topics such as harassment, fair labor standards, and finance officer requirements, Opinions of the Attorney General, new legal requirements that fit into policies and procedures districts will need to adopt for next school year.

KCSS staff will speak on addressing angry people, and AOC representatives will take on the new juvenile justice system requirements that will become effective in July 2015.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. and is $200 per person, which includes lunch. EILA and board member credit hours are available.
