KSBA offering special one-day workshop for supervisors of classified workers Oct. 23 in Lexington

KSBA is offering a one-day, comprehensive training session for those who supervise classified personnel in school districts. The workshop will be Oct. 23 in Lexington at the Embassy Suites Hotel on Newtown Pike.

KSBA’s experienced attorneys and policy staff will devote the day to covering legal and effective management practices. This includes evaluation tips and pitfalls, and investigation and discipline of classified staff. Presenters also will cover information on the Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, freedom of speech issues, gender nonconforming behavior, staff and student confidentiality issues, and more.

Attendees will receive grounding in the statutory basis and due process of classified employee management and policies related to managing classified personnel. This daylong training is designed to keep school districts out of hot water, ensuring that supervisors understand complex areas like staff and student confidentiality and prohibitions around interview questions and medical information.

Presenters:

Teresa T. Combs, KSBA, director of Legal and Administrative Training Services

John C. Fogle III, KSBA, staff attorney

Kim Barker, KSBA, senior policy consultant and eMeeting trainer

The registration fee is $200, with lunch provided. Six EILA hours will be earned.
