Board members, superintendents coming to Frankfort Thursday for KSBA advocacy day; Commissioner Pruitt, ex-KBE chair to speak

Dozens of Kentucky school board members and superintendents are registered and planning to be in Frankfort Thursday for the annual KSBA Legislative Education Advocacy Day (LEAD). Registration is $50 per person and may be accomplished online here or by calling Linda Minch at KSBA at 800-372-2962.

Eric Kennedy, KSBA's director of governmental relations, said the day will begin with breakfast at the Capitol Annex cafeteria between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Members of the General Assembly have been invited to join the event for the meal.

“As our citizen legislators debate new and continued reforms to our public education system over just 30 working days of this session, it is vital that they hear from their own local school leaders what the real impacts will be in their classrooms,” said Kennedy.

The formal LEAD program will start at 9 a.m. with comments by the KSBA advocacy team on discussing issues in the late morning meetings with their legislators.

At 9:30, Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt and former Kentucky Board of Education Chairman/former state Sen. David Karem will speak on anticipated legislative proposals.

Between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., attendees are encouraged to schedule face-to-face meetings with their senators and representatives. Kennedy said it would be best for those meetings to be scheduled prior to the Thursday event.

All are invited to attend the scheduled 11:30 a.m. meeting of the Senate Education Committee.

Lunch will be on your own, followed by attendance at the full House and Senate sessions as they convene for the day's activities around 2 p.m.
