Corporate College Program Offers Career Ideas for Students
Staff report

Tim Ernst, HR Manager for Pizza Wholesale of Lexington proposed an idea of a corporate college/youth leadership program for local schools with Work Ready’s Soft Skills Committee. The group has met with many businesses from the community and the concept has been well received.

Hunt Brothers Pizza opened the new program with a theme of “Day of Development.” Area businesses offer their services sharing career opportunities with local students.

“I can’t express enough my gratitude to our chamber businesses enough for stepping up and donating their time and services to help our school systems,” stated Chamber Director Debra Hammelback. “These first three months have been absolutely inspiring. I believe this program will grow and become a highlight of our community.”

There are now 6 juniors from Paris Independent and 14 from Bourbon County High School that participate. Both school superintendents shared their excitement for the program, stating that “the students have been given an incredible opportunity.”

Each month has a different theme. September was the Day of Development led by Hunt Brothers. October was “Manufacturing” and led by CMWA. November was “Health Care” that was led by the Bourbon County Health Department and Community Hospital along with Bourbon Heights nursing home.

December’s theme is “Business and Industry Day,” sponsored by Dan Cummins Chevrolet and McDonalds. It will also include banking, finance, investments, and insurance.

Looking ahead, January will be Legislative and Justice Day. February, Government and Municipalities, March, Agriculture, April, Sports and Leisure, and of course May will focus on graduation.
