A Graves County board member with more than three decades of service to his credit has been recommended to a new level of advocacy for public education – as a future president of KSBA.

Charles “Ronnie” Holmes, who was first elected to the Graves County Board of Education in 1985, has been endorsed by the association’s nominating committee to become president elect of the 81-year-old organization. Under the KSBA bylaws, his nomination will be ratified by a vote of members participating in the annual business meeting next February during the association’s annual conference in Louisville.

Holmes, who owns a contracting business in Mayfield, is currently a director-at-large on the 27-member KSBA board. He has previously served as regional chairperson for the districts in KSBA’s First Region. He will be president elect for two years during the presidency of David Webster of Simpson County.

In addition to Holmes, the nominating committee has recommended four local board members to fill vacancies on the KSBA board. Once ratified, each will serve a three-year term. They are:

      · Diane Berry, who recently won re-election to a second term on the Nelson County school board.

      · Steve Becker, who is in his second term as a member of the Danville Independent board.

      · Bill Robertson, who is in his fourth period of service on the Fulton Independent board.

      · Davonna Page, a member of the Russellville Independent board since 2003.

Becker and Berry will be new to the KSBA board. Page and Robertson had previously served as regional chairpersons for the KSBA Third and First Regions, respectively.

Vacancies in search of candidates

KSBA President Allen Kennedy will make appointments to fill a pair of director-at-large seats on the board when those positions become vacant in January. Kennedy said he is particularly interested in candidates from the eastern portion of the state, to attempt to maintain the board’s geographical makeup as much as possible.
