KSBA staff to provide in-depth training day on student records confidentiality March 21 in Lexington; registration open

Join an experienced KSBA attorney and a KSBA policy consultant for an in-depth update on student records confidentiality. This session will be held on March 21 at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington. School board member and educator EILA credit will be provided.

Topics covered will include the numerous policies and procedures districts must have in place to comply with various federal and state laws about student records confidentiality, as well as court cases and Family Policy Compliance Office opinions.

Presenters will discuss the high emphasis placed on the privacy of education records by the federal new Every Student Succeeds Act. The new latitude for record sharing between school districts and Kentucky juvenile justice agencies under SB 200 (the Juvenile Justice Reform Act of 2014) will be presented.

The program also will cover basics and recent updated provisions and agency opinions concerning the federal and state Family Educational Rights and Privacy laws; the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998; the National School Lunch Act of 1994; and he U.S. Privacy Act of 1974.

The session fee is $180 per person. Lunch is included in that fee. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The session ends at 3:30 p.m. You may register online here.
