Special Education Services
Training
By subscribing to the Special Education Service of KSBA, districts receive, at a reduced rate, specialized training in areas of Section 504, IDEA, ADD/ADHD, Discipline, Transition, Behavior Plans, Legal Issues for Regular Teachers, Policy and Procedures, Confidentiality/FERPA, Inclusion/Collaboration, IEP's, ARC Chairperson, School Council and KAR Training. The service also offers program development, orientation and training for new district special education staff and other school system personnel.
Conferences
Aside from specific district trainings offered, this service also sponsors and presents regional training, workshops and conferences throughout the year featuring keynote presenters.
Consultation
Immediate telephone and/or e-mail assistance with questions or situations arising in school districts is offered as part of the service.
Jobs Search
An updated listing of persons seeking employment in the special education job market is available.
Products
A wide range of products specifically designed for district special education personnel are available in the form of a variety of training handouts, videos, software and manuals.
Legal Issues
The service offers specific case consultation in the form of hands-on advice and counsel to districts on individual situations, as well as an information source on special education issues and recent federal and state court decisions.
Section 504
Offering specialized training to district personnel in Section 504 has allowed the service to provide a special subscription in this area including the receipt each month of the 504 Newsletter that outlines recent decisions and developments. Section 504 Hearing Officer Training provides districts the opportunity to arrange for a 504 Hearing Officer in the district.
