KSBA's Student Support Service provides school boards and other district and school leaders with the support necessary to become strong advocates for ALL students in their district.

By working with boards and school staff to identify and remove risk factors that threaten the health, safety and academic success of their students, this service helps translate the vision of student advocacy into reality at the state and community level.  Since many barriers originate in homes and communities, strong emphasis is placed on strengthening partnerships among school districts, families and community organizations.  Major components include:

  • Provide local boards with information that increases their awareness of student risk factors, barriers to learning and best practices to improves student achievement and other outcomes;

  • Conduct risk assessments for individual school districts and communities;

  • Broker, develop and provide technical assistance to individual boards on the specific needs of students in their districts as reflected by local data;

  • Coordinate and host the annual Kentucky Safe Schools, Successful Students conference;

  • Represent the needs of at risk students in the legislative process;

  • Collaborate with other state organizations to provide training and technical assistance in the areas of parental involvement, school-based health and mental health services, truancy and dropout prevention and extended learning opportunities;

  • Direct the activities of the Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) training component;

  • Host district and community forums related to student learning needs.
