Mark Rich is an Edmonson County school board member
Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
The main reason I decided to run for school board was because I had five grandchildren attending four different schools in our district and wanted to do what I could to ensure they, along with all children in our county, receive the best education possible in a safe and positive environment.
What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
I enjoy working with the other members of our board to improve the schools in our district. Currently, we’re building one new elementary, doing a major renovation to another and in the process of shuttering a 5/6 center while returning our elementary schools to K-6. This has been a rewarding experience!
What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
Since I retired I love raising a large garden, along with playing golf and traveling anywhere in the world my wife will agree to go with me!
Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
There are many and I never like singling one person out, but prefer to let them know one-on-one when I can.
Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I worked for the US National Park Service for 35 years and was fortunate to traveled to all 50 states and I think 17 countries to date with trips already booked to visit another nine countries in three trips over the next 15 months. For some reason my friends gave me the nickname of Suitcase many years ago!
