Scott Davison, Director-at-large

Scott Davison is a Rowan County school board member

Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
My mother was a public school teacher, my sisters and I were trained as teachers, and I have children in the public schools.  I myself attended public schools, and they are the only option for most people, so we should do our best to make them function well.  In running for the board position, I was hoping to represent my friends and neighbors and help the district wherever I could.

What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
My favorite things about serving on the school board is learning about the amazing ways in which our district is able to meet student needs so that they can achieve excellence.  In so many areas of life, our district provides essential things for our students, and in turn, our students are able to do so many amazing things.  Playing the role of school board member keeps me informed about all of these processes, including the challenges and success stories.

What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
Outside of my school board work, I am a professor of philosophy who writes about religious questions, and an interim dean of my college.  I also enjoy running, home renovation projects, and travel.

Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
My mother, Rebecca Bouldin, continues to work as a substitute teacher in the Columbus Public School system in Ohio, despite the fact that she is in her 80s and retired many years ago.

Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I learned to sew in graduate school, and made my wife's wedding dress in silk nearly 25 years ago.
