In response to revised changes to proposed high school graduation requirements announced on Dec. 3, 2018:
KSBA views the changes to the proposed high school graduation requirements as movement in the right direction, and we are encouraged by the commissioner’s willingness to address concerns raised by state education groups during the public comment period. We will carefully review the full statement of consideration and most recent round of proposed changes to assess the real-world implications for students, personnel and finances at the district level. Kentucky’s school boards, like other stakeholders who have offered feedback, wish to ensure state minimum graduation requirements help districts raise student achievement while not creating undue barriers. With the meeting so close, we believe the state Board of Education should defer its scheduled vote to allow time for the Department of Education to analyze the impact on students and districts and provide an updated regulatory impact statement.
