A packed lineup of education leadership presentations has been finalized for this year’s KSBA Summer Leadership Institute. The two-days of training will take place July 12-13 at the Marriott Griffin Gate on Newtown Pike in Lexington.

Board members and superintendents may earn as many as eight hours of mandated professional development training hours at this year’s Summer Leadership Institute.

Opening General Session (7 p.m.)
Motivational speaker, author and farmer Matthew Broome will deliver the opening keynote address, entitled: A Humorous Look at Board Members’ Personal and Professional Success. “Achieving a balance in life is the ultimate barometer of success, according to Broome, who will use both encouragement and humor to outline the keys to improving attitude, embracing accountability and becoming more effective team players and leaders.”
Saturday, July 13(begins at 7:30 a.m. with continental breakfast, first session at 8:30 a.m.)
Plenary Session, Saturday, July 13th, 8:30 - 10 AM (1 hour training credit)
Ken Kay, CEO of EdLeader 21, will speak on the role of school boards in the 21stCentury. “Will your students be prepared to face the pace of change in the next 25-30 years? Will they be ready for the challenges of 21st-century citizenship and 21st-century work? Kay will outline for board members the competencies young people need for life, citizenship and work; attributes of successful 21st-century schools and districts; how a 21st century education relates to the Common Core State Standards; and what school board members can do.”
