Nearly 100 nominated for KSBA First Degree College Scholarship

Boards must act by Nov. 30 for students to be eligible for two $2,500 scholarships

Kentucky school boards have placed the names of almost 100 high school seniors in the eligibility pot for the inaugural KSBA First Degree College Scholarship Program. Based on the return rate on nomination forms, the century mark will be topped sometime this week.

The nomination deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 30. Each school board may submit the names of two members of their local Class of 2012 – one male, one female – to be part of a blind draw by the KSBA Board of Directors at its December quarterly meeting. The names of the students selected to receive the scholarships will be announced with their introduction during the KSBA annual conference in February.

Board members are reminded that the nomination form must be signed by the board chairman and the students’ high school guidance counselor.

The simple nomination form and rules are also available online here http://ksba.org/FirstDegreeCollegeScholarshipProgram.aspx.

Students are eligible if no member of their immediate family (parents, siblings, legal guardians) has graduated from an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher education AND if they have achieved a score of at least 20 on the reading portion of the ACT test.

Upon selection of the students and receipt of confirmation of their admission acceptance, KSBA will pay the $2,500 scholarship directly to the college or university.
