KSBA Summer Leadership Institute online registration live

Barely 30 days away, KSBA’s major summer training event will continue the association’s yearlong emphasis on implementation of the state’s new school assessment and accountability system and other changes in the state’s public education system required under Senate Bill 1, the 2009 legislation that required a new system with added emphasis on better preparation for high school graduates to do college-level studies and/or to meet job for entering the workforce.

Registration for the KSBA Summer Leadership Institute is now live on the Web here 2011 SLI. The conference fee is $195 per person. Participating board members may earn more than seven hours in the KSBA Academy of Studies as well as credit toward meeting their annual training requirements under state law. Administrators also may earn state instructional leadership credit hours.

The Friday night opening session will be led by Education Commissioner Terry Holliday, KSBA Executive Director Bill Scott and a team of Department of Education staff and consultants on the state’s college and career readiness push and the roles and responsibilities of local district leaders.

On Saturday, author, consultant and motivational speaker Garrison Wynn from Houston will deliver the keynote presentation on building successful and effective leadership relationships.

SLI participants then have a series of selections for clinic sessions on topical issues including:

  •     Innovative Pathways to Graduation
  •     From the Court to the Courts: Safety & Liability Issues in Athletics
  •     Bridging the Gap – Energy Technology to Operational Savings

  •     Instructional Supports – Program Reviews
  •     Alternative Education Best Practices
  •     Critical Role of the Superintendent and Board in School Improvement

  •     Energy Management Plan – What Your Board Policy Requires by Oct. 1
  •     Alternative Programming for the 21st Century
  •     Finance II: Dollars and Sense
  •     The 21st Century School Board Member (Note: this is a three-hour Saturday afternoon session).
