House Speaker Greg Stumbo to address KSBA Winter Symposium in Louisville on outlook for 2014 budget-writing session

Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo (D-Prestonsburg) is confirmed to be leading a legislative panel that will look ahead to the 2014 General Assembly during the second day of this year’s KSBA Winter Symposium, Dec. 6-7 at the Louisville Marriott East. The legislative panel (with other members to be added) will be the Saturday morning Plenary Session beginning at 8:15.

The discussion is one of two dozen clinics and general sessions that will provide board members and superintendents with end-of-the-year professional development opportunities. Board members can earn as many as 8 hours toward their mandatory annual training amounts. KSBA has applied to the Kentucky Department of Education for approval of EILA training hours for superintendents and/or other administrators.

Registration is now live online here http://www.ksba.org/protected/EventView.aspx?id=7YIUP2UI. The $195 fee (an additional $15 for Friday lunch) includes a reception Friday afternoon and a continental breakfast Saturday morning. Room reservations at the new Louisville Marriott East (located just off I-64 and Hurstbourne Lane) are available at $110 a night if reservations are made by Nov. 21. Conference registration forms also were mailed to all board members and superintendents earlier this month.

Other workshop topics include several on school board members’ financial roles and responsibilities, facilities planning and management, changes in superintendent evaluation requirements, school safety issues and building news media interview skills (a three-hour KSBA Academy of Studies Level V required course that will cover two training blocks on Saturday morning).
