Kentucky teachers, principals and other K-12 personnel will soon start developing 2016-17 work plans and classroom instruction schedules. To help, KSBA has created a new, time-saving instrument that is now open for subscription.
The KSBA "It's a Date! School Calendar Planning Service” is a database of K-12-related events and observations that combines nationwide and Kentucky-specific dates.
The month-by-month listing –which will be updated at least twice during the school year – features a link to online information about every date for which background resources are available.
Here is a sample of a portion of one month of the service (minus web links):
March 1 Deadline to give tentative budget, staffing to SBDM councils
March 2 Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss’ birthday)
March 2-4 AASA Annual Conference, New Orleans
March 3 World Wildlife Day
March 4 National Grammar Day
March 6–10 National School Breakfast Week
March 8 International Women’s Day
March 8-12 St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16, Newport
March 11-13 KAAC Governor’s Cup State Finals, Louisville
March 12 Daylight Savings Time starts
March 14 Pi Day
March 15-19 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16, Lexington
March 19–25 National Agriculture Week
March 20 First day of spring
The service will include such useful dates as KHSAA and KMEA competitions, meetings of the Kentucky Board of Education, and conferences of groups like KASS, KASA, KASC, KYPTA and others.
This service is designed to be a useful tool to many people within a school district:
· Central office staff who must plan the annual calendar, district schedule changes.
· Principals and SBDM councils who schedule field trips and building-wide celebrations.
· Teachers, especially elementary educators, who often create event-related instruction themes.
A district subscription of $100 will cover any and all employees with whom the superintendent and district leadership team wishes to share both the year-long document as well as the updates. Subscriptions may be made by clicking here.
