Fall regional meetings move online
In light of the current pandemic, and after much discussion with KSBA’s regional chairpersons and board officers, KSBA has decided to hold this year’s 12 Fall Regional Meetings as virtual meetings. While the format will be different, KSBA Executive Director Kerri Schelling said participants can expect the same quality training and regional flair that make these events so popular.

The meetings begin Sept. 1 and continue until Nov. 5. Registration information will be distributed by each region’s host district in the weeks prior to each meeting. Visit our website for more details.

KSBA regional chair nominations
This fall, six regional chair seats on KSBA’s board of directors will be up for election. Regional chairs are in a unique position to serve as liaisons for KSBA’s Fall Regional Meetings while also contributing as members of the association’s board of directors. KSBA has distributed nomination information to board members and superintendents in districts with regional elections.

The regions with elections include Northern Kentucky, Middle Cumberland, Second, Eastern Kentucky South, Fourth and Upper Cumberland. Nominations are due 15 days before the respective regional meeting. Nomination forms and deadlines are available
on our website.

Wicklund, Burkhart and Page honored
The Northern Kentucky Education Council (NKEC) and Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce honored Kenton County school board chairman Carl Wicklund, retired Erlanger-Elsmere Independent Superintendent Kathy Burkhardt and retired NKEC Executive Director Polly Lusk Page with lifetime achievement awards.

The trio were recognized at the 2020 Excellence in Education Awards ceremony on July 30. The annual event, which celebrates the Education Council and the northern Kentucky region’s commitment to honoring outstanding educators, students, community partners and business leaders, was held virtually for the first time.

Wicklund has served on the Kenton board since 1991. He was a previous winner of KSBA’s Proudfoot Award for Outstanding Board Member and serves on the board of the KSBA Educational Foundation. Burkhardt retired in July after 16 years leading Erlanger-Elsmere schools. Page retired last year after 10 years as executive director of NKEC.

Bus to Business goes virtual
Bus to Business, a statewide initiative of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce focused on connecting students with employers, will be held online this fall. The program is designed to expose students to careers in their own communities. These students will be given the opportunity to speak directly with employers about career pathways. This year the Chamber is partnering with the Kentucky Society for Human Resources Management and its chapters statewide and the Kentucky Department of Education. The virtual program will take place during the month of October. For more information or to sign up a school or a business, contact Harper Smith at [email protected].
