Support for public education, excellence in communications to be honored at this week’s Kentucky School Public Relations Association annual conference

The Kentucky School Public Relations Association (KYSPRA) will provide participants with a day and a half of professional development Thursday and Friday in Bardstown. But the organization will also spend some time recognizing positive contributions to public education.

KYSPRA will honor an individual or group outside the field of education for supporting public schools with the Flag of Liberty and Learning Award. Additionally, the Richard Thornton Award will be presented to representatives of another individual or organization for leadership on behalf of public education.

The awards will be announced at the conference’s OASIS Program banquet Thursday night. At the event, KYSPRA and KSBA will distribute awards in the peer-judged OASIS (Outstanding Achievement in School Information Services) professional development program. More than 100 products – from news releases and photographs to electronic newsletters and social media pages – will be honored at the event. (Look for a complete list of the OASIS Awards recipients, including the four districts receiving the KSBA Sweepstakes Awards for overall communications programs, in a Boardcast edition later this month.)

The conference, to be conducted at My Old Kentucky Home State Park, will have workshops on customer service, photography and video production, and a pair of clinics on using social media in schools.
