Angela Parsons-Woods, Director-at-large

Angela Parsons-Woods is a Rockcastle County school board member

Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
Education is my passion. I wanted to become a part of Rockcastle County Schools so that I would be more directly involved in shaping our students’ futures.

What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
I truly enjoy learning from our staff and students. I love to soak in all the information I can to be a better school board member. Each monthly meeting, one school in our district will do a presentation. This can range from student performances to updates on new happenings in the school to test score review. It is always a joy to hear from the students and staff themselves.

What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
I love to shop! I can shop at the mall, grocery store and love to go thrifting. I'm in healthcare and interacting with my community is fun for me. I love local school sporting events. Spending time with my family is also a top activity I enjoy.

Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
I have two: my parents. My mom and dad inspired and supported me and my sisters no matter what. Education was always a priority and learning was prominent in our home. I cannot remember a day where we were not taught even a small lesson.

Name a book/magazine/website/publication/etc. that you would recommend to other school board members.
The Kentucky School Advocate magazine is wonderful! It is full of information needed for all Kentucky school board members.

Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I have a black belt in Shotokan karate. It's been a few decades since achieving this rank but I did it!
