Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
My passion for children and youth was the driving force behind my decision to run for our local school board the first time and continues to be my number one reason for my desire to continue serving in this role. Secondary, coming from a family with at least three generations of school employees who have held every position in our local school district besides administrator and middle school teacher, I have a strong commitment to our staff. Finally, my love for our community and helping it grow and prosper in every respect is another source of inspiration.
What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
The opportunity to have a positive impact on our students and their futures.
What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
Traveling is always the first hobby that I name. My goal is to see all 50 state capitols, governors' residences and state supreme courts. For me, traveling is about exploring our expansive and diverse country, having new experiences, meeting new people and just learning.
Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
My Dad and his legacy serve as a daily challenge to my Mother, my brother and I. There are very few people that my Dad encountered throughout his life that were not positively impact by him. From our servers at our favorite restaurants to the front desk, maintenance and cleaning staff at our favorite hotels to our family and friends to the person on the street, my Dad knew or learned their names, made time for them, got to know them and most importantly demonstrated with his actions, time and words that they were loved people of value and worth.
Name a book/magazine/website/publication/etc. that you would recommend to other school board members.
Any resource that shares information about their students or staff.
Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I have been parasailing.
