Davonna Page has served as a Russellville Independent school board member since May of 2003.
Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
The importance of education was something my parents impressed upon me and, I in turn, impressed it on my daughter. Advocacy on behalf of the students and families in my district and the state is what drives me. Every child should receive a quality education that will equip them with the knowledge and skills they need contribute in a positive way to the community.
What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
Seeing our students succeed and seeing the parents' pride in what their child has accomplished. Seeing students graduate and seeing them after graduation in their next chapter of their lives.
What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
I'm a sports fan -- basketball (high school and college), football at all levels, and golf. I enjoy traveling and experiencing new things.
Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
My mom, Winona Coursey, and my daughter, Priscilla Page. My mom is the reason I have such a respect for education. My daughter has accomplished way more than I ever have and am so proud of her independence and persistence. Also, my fellow board members. They have taught me a lot and respectfully provide me with different perspectives to issues.
Name a book/magazine/website/publication/etc. that you would recommend to other school board members.
