Jeremy Luckett is an Owensboro Independent school board member
Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
I was a part of a leadership program through the Chamber of Commerce here and as part of that we are required to attend meetings of a local board or government entity. I elected to attend the city school board meetings. After graduating from the program I heard there would be an open seat and after having learned some of what the board did by attending meetings I felt this may be my opportunity to give back to my community and the kids in the district in which I live and work.
What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
I love that our school district places an emphasis on the arts as I think they are a crucial part of education. I love working with the administration at the board office and with my other board members who all are very forward facing and always have the best interests of the kids, families, and staff which we serve at heart.
What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
I am involved in a few other non-profit boards in town and I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and backpacking. I also am an avid University of Kentucky sports fan.
Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
I can name countless teachers but my mentor growing up was the youth minister at my church in Frankfort named Andy McDonald. I have stayed in contact with him throughout the years and he has always been a great source of inspiration and advice for me.
Name a book/magazine/website/publication/etc. that you would recommend to other school board members.

Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I am a huge history buff (particularly surrounding the Civil War) and have traveled to many historical sites. I have even considered going back to school for a history degree because I enjoy it so much.
