Jerry Browning, Regional Director

Jerry Browning is a Garrard County school board member

Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
I had been involved in the district mentoring program for several years and attended many school board meetings. When the lines were moved in my voting district, the person who held my seat was unable to run. The superintendent called me and asked me to consider running. I prayed about it and felt it was the Lord's will for me to do it. I am currently in my 19th year and haven't regretted it once.

What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
Getting to know the superintendent, board office staff, principals, teachers and witnessing the children they are tasked with educating grow physically, emotionally and intellectually. Also, being able to make decisions that enhance that growth. My favorite part of board meetings is the part of the agenda that recognizes the accomplishments of students at each school but teachers and staff as well.

What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
I enjoy going on family vacations with my children, sons in law and 7 grandchildren. My wife and I enjoy raising a garden and eating the fruits of our labor.

Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Name a book/magazine/website/publication/etc. that you would recommend to other school board members.
"How Not to be a Terrible Board Member"

Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I'm a private pilot and was a mission pilot with the Civil Air Patrol for over 16 years. Also, I have been leading pilgrimages to the Holy Land for over 40 years and have been a pastor for over 50 years.
