Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
Education has always been of great importance to me. I have always considered myself to be a professional student. I have a passion for my community and take personal interest in preserving and improving the quality of public education of the schools within the district. It is very important to pay attention to the budget and understand how the district budget is spent. Our students deserve the very best we have to offer early on, so that they can be a vital part in our community post graduation.
What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
The ability to participate in and seeing the outcomes of our students. I feel it allows me to participate in a shared vision for academic achievement by participating in the culture of learning, but also creating an expectation of high academic standards for all students in relevant subject areas, courses of study and curriculum guides, as we become more informed with stakeholders as well as colleagues. Serving also provides the opportunity to create a transparent process of accountability as it relates to our Superintendent, and other personnel within the scope of a school board members responsibilities, through collaboration.
What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
I love professional football and college basketball, crocheting, and diamond art. I love to challenge myself and learning new things. I enjoy cooking and baking. I enjoy growing as a Minister of the Gospel and making others feel better through the gift of massage therapy as a Therapist.
Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
My parents were excellent role models. I had so many role models growing up, too many to name. As a military child we were in many different settings and relocated so many times that we were taught to being flexible and that change is the only thing that is constant.
Name a book/magazine/website/publication/etc. that you would recommend to other school board members.
The Holy Bible, "How Not to Be a Terrible School Board Member: Lessons for School Administrators and Board Members"
Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I guess I am most proud of the fact that I finished High school in 3 years. I loved learning so much that I continued school during the summers and put myself a year ahead. This allowed me to start college when I was 17 years old. My best kept secret is that I love WWE wrestling.
