Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
As a retired teacher from the Campbellsville Independent School District, I was looking for a way to continue to serve the school community. When an opening occurred on the school board, I decided to run for election. Fifteen years later, I am completing my third term, and proud to be a member of a great district team moving forward.
What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
My favorite thing about serving on the school board is the ever changing challenges that occur daily in the life of school board members. Our board membership is very diverse and representative of our school community. Being able to be interactive with students, parents, school district personnel, community leaders and elected officials has kept me "young at heart" and blessed to be an active member of the school community.
What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
Outside my board work, I enjoy reading, walking and, most importantly, spending time with family and friends. I am blessed to still have my mom (93 years young), two daughters, seven grandchildren, husband, brother/sister-in-law, nieces and cousins that make my life full of joy. God has blessed my life greatly.
Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
The person I am inspired by is my MOM, the greatest woman I will always be blessed to know. She raised my brother and I by herself after losing my dad, with the upmost dignity and grace, never complaining, just being the best mother ever. Having only a 7th grade education, she encouraged both of us to study "hard" and strive to be the best. With her love, guidance and support, she raised two college graduates, both teachers, and the rest is history.

While teaching, I used a RAP routine to teach elements of poetry.
