The inaugural School Energy Summit: Insight in Energy Solutions will be May 9–10 in Louisville. School board members, superintendents, energy managers and others should watch the KSBA website and their email for details in the coming weeks.

“This is to provide, first of all, the SEMP-funded energy managers with professional development,” said School Energy Managers Project Director Ron Willhite. “At the same time, we see this as an opportunity to share the expertise and knowledge that our folks have gained with all schools throughout the state. We’re going to invite not only the private schools but postsecondary schools, too. We’re opening it up to all schools.”

The event is still in the planning stages, but is expected to feature three general sessions, including one that provides a state and national energy outlook, plus a panel of utility representatives and a panel of superintendents in addition to breakout sessions on topics from lighting options to efficient facility design.

Willhite said the event also will include tours of energy-efficient schools in the area.
