Susan Duncan, Director-at-large

Susan Duncan is a Scott County school board member

Please share why you decided to run for your local school board.
I had more to offer! As a retired teacher/administrator, I felt I could apply my experience to help break through the noise and indecision related to a potential second high school in our district and provide a classroom teacher's practical perspective to increasing student achievement.

What is your favorite thing about serving on your local board?
Keeping the main thing the main thing. I truly enjoy working with district leaders and fellow board members to ensure Scott County is the best place to live and learn for everyone. My hope is to expand that to the entire state!

What activities do you enjoy doing outside your board work?
Outside of my school board work, I spend time traveling with my family, playing bridge and golf (depending on the weather) and am an avid UK sports fan.

Name someone in your life you admire, or who inspired or helped you along the way.
My grandmother. She taught me to cook. She taught me to sew. She took time and listened to me. She gave me a sense of self and purpose and pride in my community. She helped me understand how the good works of those before me provided so much – and encouraged me to take the torch. I carry her memory with me everywhere I go and she is still my strongest supporter – if only in my heart.

Name a book/magazine/website/publication/etc. that you would recommend to other school board members.
"The 360 Degree Leader" by John C. Maxwell

Please share something about yourself that most people may not know.
I was a victim of a road rage shooting on an interstate in Maryland while driving my daughter to college in 2018. Thankfully, he missed. But I do have two bullet holes in my car as proof.
