Boone Co. board member, KSBA president named Champion for Education
Boone County school board member and KSBA President Karen Byrd was presented with the Champion for Education Award on April 23 at the 15th Annual Northern Kentucky Education Council’s Excellence in Education Celebration. The award recognizes individuals and organizations who have demonstrated ongoing dedication to the success of students and the betterment of education in northern Kentucky. Byrd has served on the Boone County school board since 1994. She previously served as KSBA’s Northern Kentucky regional director and a director-at-large on KSBA’s board of directors prior to becoming the association’s 48th president in 2023.
Davies Co. board member gets his Way
Daviess County Schools honored board member Dale Stewart with the unveiling of “Dale Stewart Way” at Apollo High School. While Stewart has served on the school board since 2016, his leadership and dedication to the district date back more than a half century. Stewart served as an educator, coach and administrator for Apollo High School from 1973-2002, the last seven years as principal. Stewart previously represented KSBA’s Second Region on the association’s board of directors.
Board member recognized by Murray State University
Shawn Smee of the Murray Independent Board of Education was recently honored as the 2023-24 “Racer Hero.” The award is presented annually by the Murray State University Student Government Association to a full-time staff member who shows exceptional dedication and contribution to the campus environment. Smee serves as the director of recruitment for Murray State. He has served on the Murray Independent board since 2018 and currently sits on KSBA’s board as First Region director.
KSBA Policy director to serve on statewide workforce committee
KSBA Director of Policy and eMeeting Services Katrina Kinman has been named to the Education Attainment Committee of the Kentucky Workforce Innovation Board (KWIB). The committee supports the education objectives of KWIB’s strategic plan, exploring how various stakeholders “align and integrate P-12, postsecondary, and adult education to provide lifelong opportunities for Kentuckians that prepare them for the rapidly shifting realities of work in the future.” KWIB is an advisory board to the governor and is made up of employers, labor representatives, education providers and other state and local workforce stakeholders.
