District Turnaround for Student Success

District Turnaround for Student Success: How Boards Will Lead Turnaround Efforts in our New State Accountability System
Join us April 29, 2021 for a special KSBA webinar event.

Recent changes to the school accountability laws in Kentucky have greatly increased the direct role of local school boards in using assessment data to lead the turnaround efforts in their schools, including the selection of outside partners to assist district leaders in developing plans for improved student achievement.

On Thursday, April 29, KSBA will offer a special virtual training opportunity in collaboration with The Partnership for Leaders in Education (PLE), a joint venture of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and the School of Education and Human Development. PLE is a national leader for insights and delivery capacity to help districts create conditions that enable schools to achieve and sustain success for students. PLE’s innovative, systemic approach to school improvement has resulted in remarkable gains in student achievement in schools across the country.

The Partnership for Leaders in Education (PLE) is a joint venture of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and the School of Education and Human Development – both nationally ranked in the top 20 graduate programs in their fields. PLE’s vision is to be the leading national organization for insights and delivery capacity to help school systems create conditions that enable schools to achieve and sustain success for students. PLE’s innovative, systemic approach to school improvement has resulted in remarkable gains in student achievement in schools and districts across the country. Over 15 cohorts, PLE has served over 100 school districts, across 25 states, many through multiple engagements. Notably, most of PLE’s partner schools outgain state averages, almost 50% experience double-digit proficiency gains within two years, and many more achieve state-wide recognition for much larger student growth or as Title 1 blue ribbon schools. Validating the strength of its programs, the PLE was recognized by RAND and the Wallace Foundation as one of only two leadership development efforts in the country that qualifies as “evidence-based” under ESSA. The PLE’s continuously evolving, research-informed frameworks informed via a recent national partnership practice in over twenty state education agencies.

Speakers:

Eric Kennedy, KSBA Director of Advocacy

William Robinson, Executive Director for the University of Virginia Partnership for Leaders in Education (UVA-PLE)
