Two appointed to KSBA board of directors
Rockcastle County school board member Angela Parsons-Woods was appointed to fill a vacant at-large seat on KSBA’s board of directors. The unexpired term will run through February 2025. Parsons-Woods began her school board service in 2021 and has served as a physician assistant at Rockcastle Regional Hospital since 2004. Parsons-Woods is a former school-based decision making council representative and is active in her community, currently serving on the boards for the Rockcastle Arts Association and the Kentucky Christian Assembly.

Martin County school board member Kathleen Price was appointed to serve as director for KSBA’s Eastern Kentucky South Region. The term will run through December 2026. Price has served on her local board since 2003, serving as chair from 2010 until 2023. She is a medical assistant and X-ray technician and has served as a physician’s office manager for 44 years. She is actively involved in planning community events and is a member of her local scholarship board. 

Foundation board selects two new officers
Kevin Woosley was elected chair of the KSBA Educational Foundation board of directors during the board’s Feb. 28 meeting. Woosley is a former Oldham County school board member and now serves as 3rd District Magistrate for the Oldham County Fiscal Court. He is a retired 911 administrator for the Kentucky State Police and now consults for Caliber Public Safety.

Kirk Haynes was elected to serve as the foundation’s treasurer. Haynes is a gifted and talented teacher at Pathfinder Elementary School of Innovation (Jefferson County) and is a grants/fundraising consultant. He holds an education specialist degree from Murray State University. Haynes previously served as a member of the Henderson County Board of Education and is a member of the State Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education.

Uhls named vice chair of state board
Simpson County school board member and current KSBA Third Region Director Nancy Uhls has been named vice chair of the Kentucky Board for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (KBMIR). She has served on the KBMIR since 2021. Uhls is an experienced nuclear medicine professional and a massage therapist. Her school board service in Simpson County began with her appointment in 2010. She was then elected in 2014 and has served as vice chair since 2016. 

KSBA welcomes new controller
Arnis Ekens started Jan. 3 as the association’s new controller. Ekens, originally from Riga, Latvia, has lived in the U.S. for 34 years, including 13 in Kentucky. His career in finance spans more than three decades. Ekens holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Florida International University, however his education started in the field of civil engineering. He enjoys spending time with his children, dogs and cat. His interests include martial arts, motorsports and animal rights.
