Staff report

KSBA’s board of directors convened for its quarterly meeting on Dec. 9 in Louisville during KSBA’s 2023 Winter Symposium.

The board approved changes to KSBA bylaws and policies that, among other things, amended “Regional Chairs” to “Regional Directors,” and cleaned up language pertaining to director removal in keeping with best practices.

Board members also heard various committee reports, approved financials, listened to a strategic plan update and heard a summary of KSBA Educational Foundation fundraising. Members of the Selection Committee – appointed by KSBA President Karen Byrd – presented the names of four at-large directors-elect. Prior to installation, those selected will be subject to a vote of ratification at KSBA’s Annual Conference in March. Names of those selected will be announced next month.

KSBA Executive Director Kerri Schelling presented recommendations on the association’s advocacy strategy ahead of the 2024 legislative session and outlined the process for contracting with a lobbying firm.

Per KSBA tradition, the board held its annual drawing for winners of the 2024 First Degree College Scholarship and CTE Student Grant programs that support Kentucky high schoolers. The board also recognized and thanked this year’s sponsors: American Fidelity and Houchens Insurance Group.
