KSBA looks forward to more closely analyzing the governor’s budget proposal, and we appreciate this administration’s support for public education, once again made clear in this evening’s address. The timely passage of a state budget is the most important task before our legislature, and providing adequate and equitable support in that budget for our common schools is the only state funding requirement set forth in our constitution. To make that investment in student-centered programming, for the 90 percent of Kentucky’s children our schools serve, it is imperative that we maintain a moratorium on any new tax expenditures. The challenges facing our students, greatly compounded by the pandemic, must be met with appropriate funding for instructional resources, personnel and infrastructure.
