Nominations open for outstanding board member, superintendent, KSBA Friend of Education awards

The tradition of recognizing exceptional contributions to public education in Kentucky will continue Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 when special honors will be bestowed on a top school board member, superintendent and individual or organization for support of local schools.

But first, someone or some group must put their names up for consideration.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 F. L. Dupree Outstanding Superintendent, Warren Proudfoot Outstanding School Board Member and KSBA Friend of Education awards. All nominations must be received by Nov. 1. All forms and additional information is available on the KSBA website here  http://www.ksba.org/AnnualConferenceEducationAwards.aspx.

KSBA Friend of Education Award

The 25th KSBA Friend of Education Award will go to an individual, an organization, a business or a corporation in recognition of support for public education in a community or across the state. Board members and superintendents may not be nominated for this recognition and a nomination may not be made by any district that has had a nominee chosen for the award in 10 years.

Selection is by a statewide panel of education leaders.

Warren Proudfoot Outstanding School Board Member Award

Co-sponsored by the Kentucky PTA and KSBA, this honor is open to any current board member who has at least five years’ service. The 2014 recipient will be the 23rdhonoree in memory of the late Dr. Proudfoot, a former KSBA president and Rowan County school board member. Please note that nominations for this award go to the Kentucky PTA and the selection is made by that organization’s board of directors.

F. L. Dupree Outstanding Superintendent Award

Next year marks the 44thannual presentation of the Dupree Award by KSBA and the family of the late F. L. Dupree, a London Independent school board member and public education advocate. All superintendents who have been in their current post since July 1, 2009 may be nominated. Two panels of past Dupree recipients are the judges – the first screening all nominees and recommending a group of finalists whose districts are then permitted to submit expanded information that is considered by a different panel of Dupree honorees.
