KSBA welcomes Policy Consultant and eMeeting Trainer Matt Cooper to its policy unit. He currently serves on the Menifee County Schools Board of Education, first appointed in 2015 for an eight-month stint, reappointed in 2018, and then elected to his first four-year term in 2020.
“I am excited to support school boards across Kentucky by serving with KSBA,” Cooper said. “So far, I have most enjoyed having the opportunity to see the other side of policy creation/updates and to learn on the fly by jumping into the deep end with the ongoing annual update. On a personal note, I hope to utilize my service with KSBA to become a more informed board member and then on the flip side to use my experience as a board member to serve my assigned districts more effectively.”
This unique board policy experience and extensive familiarity with district governance is an asset to KSBA and will directly benefit school districts. Prior to joining KSBA in April, Cooper spent three years with the Gateway Area Development District where, most recently, as disaster recovery coordinator he was responsible for regional hazard mitigation planning and related projects. His role required close collaboration with state and federal agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Justice, Kentucky Office of Homeland Security, Kentucky Emergency Management, and working with community development block grants across a five-county area that included Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan counties.
